hot Water Heater Repair

We’re always ready to help with your hot water heater repair. Call us for help with your water heater 833-547-5047.

The first thing to consider when thinking about repairing or replacing your hot water heater is how old it is. The average life of a hot water heater is about 10 years before they can start to have issues and the risk of the tank cracking.

TIP: In our 20+ years working on water heaters, in some cases, home insurance companies do not cover any damage caused by a water heater that is older than 10 years. Make sure to ask your insurance company or ask us about getting a new hot water heater.

Water Heater Technologies

There are many ways to heat the water in your home, let’s take a look at some of the residential pieces of equipment commonly found in Ontario.

Natural Draft (Conventional) water heaters have a draft hood that uses gravity to exhaust gas out of the home. This metal draft hood sits on top of the water heater and the hot air rises up through it.

Power Vent water heaters use a fan on top of the water heater to exhaust gas out of the home through a PVP pipe. The extra fan on top of the water tank leads to higher efficiency when heating the water in the tank.

Electric Water heaters use an upper and lower heating element powered by electricity and thus no gas is needed. The upper element heats the water in the top portion of the tank first. Once the top portion reaches the desired temperature, the upper thermostat switches power to the lower element, heating the rest of the water. Electric tanks also have a Heat Pump addon that uses super heated/cooled gasses to transfer heat to water.

Tankless water heaters use on demanding high powered gas heating to warm the water when needed. They do not store large amounts of heated water, but instead a sensor detects the flow and activates a gas burner to heat the water as it passes through a heat exchanger.

Tankless Hot Water Heaters

These models heat water on-demand rather than storing gallons of water at a time that can rust out. Tankless systems are great for finished spaces, when space is limited, and when there is a larger group or family living in the home.

A tankless maybe not be the system for you if your hot water already take times to heat up, you have a more affordable budget in mind or when space is not an issue. Call us for a water heater quote 833-547-5047.
